Nicolab will roll out a six-month trial of StrokeViewer, an artificial intelligence-powered mobile stroke diagnostics tool across 12 Brisbane Queensland hospitals in early 2023.
The trial sites are: Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital; The Prince Charles Hospital; Caboolture; Redcliffe; Sunshine Coast University Hospital; Gympie; Hervey Bay; Bundaberg; Rockhampton; Mackay; Townsville; and Cairns Base Hospital.
StrokeViewer is a certified comprehensive, end-to-end solution, supporting clinicians with the most accurate diagnosis, decision making and treatment planning tools available for patients presenting with a stroke. StrokeViewer allows clinicians to make critical, life-saving decisions anywhere and anytime via its unique mobile app.
Stroke is a devastating disease where blood supply to the brain is stopped, initiating cell death and severe brain damage within minutes. The solution will provide all hospitals with a common platform and may significantly reduce the time required for each step in the stroke workflow.
A/Prof Andrew Wong, co-chair of the Queensland Stroke Clinical Network and RBWH Director of Neurology and Stroke said stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers.
“With figures showing one in six people will have a stroke at some point in their life, Queensland Health is investing into this crucial technology that will help improve the outcomes of patients who have had a stroke across QLD.”
The project will address the major gap of access to stroke care in regional and remote locations. Regardless of geographical location, CT brain images from acute stroke patients will be sent immediately to city-based stroke physicians to diagnose the type of stroke that has occurred – within minutes.
