Milan, Italy, September 2025 – The dynamic duo is taking part in the EU-funded InnoMatch project to test and develop an innovative solution that addresses a key challenge from the buyer’s perspective.
What is InnoMatch?
InnoMatch is powered by the EIC Innovation Procurement Programme, an initiative of
the European Innovation Council (EIC), which aims to facilitate access to procurement markets in Europe and globally, ensures increased market opportunities for innovative SMEs and start-ups while contributing, at the same time, to their scaling up.
Finding first customers is one of the main barriers that restricts access to market and commercialisation of innovative solutions developed by innovative SMEs. To facilitate the uptake of innovation procurement, InnoMatch will support the pilot testing of innovative solutions provided by the EIC Awardees for public and private procurement customer Regione Lombardia. In total, €2.28M will be offered in the context of the InnoMatch to support at least 38 pilots, covering up to €60,000 per pilot.
Nicolab and Regione Lombardia are taking part in InnoMatch. Cerebral stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in Lombardy, where 18,000 cases occur annually. Effective treatment is challenged by the time-critical nature of stroke and the distances between hospitals and specialized centers. To address this, Regione Lombardia and Nicolab are piloting StrokeViewer, an AI-powered platform that enhances CT and CTP diagnostics, detects critical stroke findings, and enables real-time image sharing across Hub and Spoke hospitals. By streamlining decision-making and improving regional coordination, the solution empowers clinicians to deliver faster, more effective care and laying the foundation for a scalable AI-driven stroke network in Europe.
About the programme
To ensure pilot success, the InnoMatch Programme incorporates a three-stage process:
– Prepare phase (up to 2 months): Sub-Grant Agreement (SGA) and an Action Plan preparation. The Action Plan will be developed together with the Buyer.
-Deploy phase (up to 6 months): Official start of the pilot implementation: pilots will be conducted within the services or premises of the Buyer, and with the support of a dedicated team on the Buyer’s side.
-Assess phase (up to 4 months): Preparation of a Validation Report: evaluation of the success of each pilot, the KPI fulfilment. With the involvement of the Buyer.
The program aims to produce validated, market-ready innovative solutions with the potential to be successfully commercialised and adopted.
